The annual Christmas Fantasy Rum Cake has arrived.
This is a remembrance each year from my wife’s aunt and uncle in Los Angeles I met once at our wedding but live in our hearts and our refrigerator for the year that follows.
The fantasy is one can eat this and retain the same weight.
And so it is, on rare occasions, I nibble at the delicious yet caloric Christmas Fantasy Rum Cake, until this time each year, when the remnants, although perfectly preserved, are discharged in favor of the fresh batch.
The label bears their photos, and the admonition:
“For Maximum Enjoyment, Refrigerate Before Consuming.”
And we do. All year.
