Here is what President Reagan said at the Brandenburg Gate thirty years ago this June about the Berlin wall:
“General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

Homeland Security is taking bids on a wall to be build in the American Southwest to keep people out much the same as the Soviets built a wall in Berlin to keep people in. The irony is not lost.
